V/H/S/85, a found footage horror anthology from 2023, was produced by Studio71 and Bloody Disgusting. As the sixth film in the V/H/S series, it follows *V/H/S/99* (2022). The story takes place in 1985 and is built from five found footage segments, all tied together by a sixth frame narrative. Directors include Mike P. Nelson, Gigi Saul Guerrero, Natasha Kermani, and Scott Derrickson. The film is a co-production between the United States and Mexico.

It premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 22, 2023, and hit Shudder in the United States as a Shudder Original Film on October 6, 2023. A sequel, *V/H/S/Beyond*, followed on October 4, 2024.

The movie presents itself as an anthology of five short horror films, with the frame narrative acting as a sixth short. Each segment is linked by the concept of found footage, all coming from VHS tapes. This is the first installment where two segments—"No Wake" and "Ambrosia"—are directly connected. Scott Derrickson’s "Dreamkill" is a standalone segment that shares thematic or stylistic elements with his 2021 film *The Black Phone*, but it is not officially part of that franchise or canon.

**"Total Copy" (Frame Narrative) — Prologue** Directed by David Bruckner, written by Evan Dickson from a story by Bruckner and Dickson, this frame narrative is presented as a documentary. It follows a team of scientists—Dr. Pike Spratling, Dr. Gary Newell, Dr. Margaret Porter, and Dr. Sarah Greyson—at Stamer University as they study a shapeshifting being named "Rory."

**"No Wake"** Written and directed by Mike P. Nelson, this segment centers on seven friends—Rob, Anna, Jared, Drew, Robin, Kevin, and Kelly—who travel in an RV to camp at Lake Evic. The group ignores warning signs about swimming, except for Anna and Jared. While water skiing, Rob, Drew, Robin, Kevin, and Kelly are shot dead by an unseen sniper from the shore. Moments later, all except Kevin regain consciousness despite fatal injuries and return to shore, where they find Anna and Jared dead and their vehicle marked with a bloody Roman numeral for seven. The survivors deduce the lake resurrects the dead, and since only they swam, only they came back. They decide to hunt their attacker as the footage ends.
